Philippes de Buyster, Le Pautre, 1672 - Statue: Satyr, Louis XIV & de Notre, Versailles

Statue of a Satyr witha grape of raisin, with a hight of 7 feet. This statue was ordered by the architect of Louis XIV for the gardens of Versailles. This is one of the 8 statues of the "petite commande" of the architect de Notre . These statues were placed in and later replaced. They were designed for the big round which is replaced by the bassin of the dragon. Drawing and statue by Phillipes de Buyster (1559-1686) and engraved by Le Pautre (1618-1682) ca 1672 in Paris. Very rare engraving because of the little time it was placed in the gardens of Versailles. Printed on laid 17th century paper with 1 mm margins. Very good impression with the ruling lines for the texte, one of the first impressions, with lot of contrasts. Measures 27,5 cm x 41,2 cm. Delivered in a museum passepartout.
